Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who must go into hiding during the Second World War to escape the Nazis. Together with seven others she is hiding in the annex of Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam. After being discovered and deported to concentration camps more than two years. Of the eight survives only Anne’s father, Otto Frank. Anne Frank is world famous for the diary she wrote during the war and that was published after the war.
Anne was given a diary as a birthday present on het thirteenth birthday. She began to write in the diary straight away. On the first page she startred writing: ‘I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.’
Most of het diary deals with the time in the ‘secret annexe’. The place where Anne Frank went into hiding. She had to hide in te secret annexe together with her parents, her sister and four other Jewish people. It was e vaery dangerouw and dark time, every dat their lives were in danger. All of the Netherlands was occupied by the German Nazi army. Jewish people were arrested everywhere and sent to concentration camps.
Only the father of Anne Frank survived
After two years in hiding Anne Frank and all the other people in hiding in the secret annexe were discovered and arrested by the Nazi regime. Anne Frank was send to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany. She died here at the age of fifteen years old. Of all the eight people who were hiding in the secret annexe only the father of Anne Frank survived the Holocaust. During the Seconde World War more than 100,000 Jews from Holland were killed in the nazi concentration camps.
‘The Secret Annexe’
After the seconde world war Anne’s father returned to the city of Amsterdam. Fortunately the diary of Anne Frank had been saved. Her father thought that he should not keep the diary only to himself, and found a small publisher to publish a book called ‘The Secret Annexe’. The book has been red by millions of people from all around the world. And every year the are many thousands of people who come to Amsterdam to visit the Anne Frank House and the Anne Frank Museum.
